Video Capture on OS X

Hi All,

I’ve been trying to find ways to capture multiple analog SD video streams into OF (in OS X) but I’m having a really hard time finding the right capture device for the job. Firewire converters like the ADVC 55 work great, but only one can be used per system. I tried the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt but found it to be incredibly unreliable on Mountain Lion; the device would be detected, but most of the times it would not put frames out via Quicktime (the bundled software worked just fine though). What capture devices are you using with OF?

Many thanks,

c.

Hi - I’ve used the non HD version of this:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/products/consumer+products/dazzle/dazzle+video+archiving/dazzle+dvd+recorder+plus.htm

combined with http://www.echofx.com/videoglide.html

You can use multiple devices per computer - but you’ll need a separate license per device.
For capture its been rock solid for me. Though note - I’ve never tried the HD version.

This is a fairly new device: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultrastudio/
I haven’t tried it personally but supposidly there is both Quicktime support and a separate api for grabbing frames. It might be YUV only thought.

Thanks Theo. I’ll give those a shot.
