networkUdpReceiverExample not working - black windows?

Hoi hoi

I am new to Code::Blocks and I am trying out the ofxNetwork examples. The networkUdpSenderExample works fine, however the networkUdpReceiverExample doesn´t, it just shows 2 black windows.
It does not give any compiler error so I do not know what is going on. I tried the example on Xcode and worked fine so there must be something with CB

OF v0073 downloaded today from the page, I also downoloaded the latest version of ofxNetwork and ofxThread from GitHub
Antivirus is off.
Windows 7 64bit

Screen capture attached

According to the debugger there are no errors. All other OF examples run normally, I downloaded the latest ofxNetwork, ofxThread and addons examples from gitHub, please help, if this does not work I cannot work further in my project… T_T

Can you do this in the UDP receiver’s testApp::setup function.

ofSetLogLevel(OF_LOG_VERBOSE);

  • and include the results from the console.

It may be that a firewall on your windows machine is blocking the connection.
This is quite common.

Try disabling it and see if that works.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Also try changing the port you are connecting to ( in both examples change the port number to 33220 - or some other number )

Thanks a lot for your reply theo!!

I tried all you said above: turning off firewalls, changing port number, and setting OF_LOG_VERBOSE. Still no change.

During building the program says something lik “verbose is on but not used”, but it is shown but 1seg and then dissapeares.

The only thing I see in my Build Log after execution is this:

Checking for existence: C:\Users\glBeatriz\Documents\OF_v0073_win_cb_release\apps\myApps\allAddonsExample_TEST\bin\allAddonsExample.exe
Executing: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks/cb_console_runner.exe" "C:\Users\glBeatriz\Documents\OF_v0073_win_cb_release\apps\myApps\allAddonsExample_TEST\bin\allAddonsExample.exe"  (in C:\Users\glBeatriz\Documents\OF_v0073_win_cb_release\apps\myApps\allAddonsExample_TEST\bin)

So weird, all the other addons work fine!!

hmm - thats weird - as the two apps should look like this: http://imgur.com/2Soyo
if you comment out these lines in the UDP Reciever app do you see white app and the black text as in the image.

    //create the socket and bind to port 11999
	//udpConnection.Create();
	//udpConnection.Bind(11999);
	//udpConnection.SetNonBlocking(true);

The window with the executable console (?) says all the time: INVALID_SOCKET. There are some other messages during building in the Build Log but they just appear for some seconds during the first time testApp.cpp is compiled, then dissapear and says the same as in my post above.

thats really weird - as at the very least the screen should be white.
do the other OF examples compile and run fine for you?

Yes, the other examples compile just fine, even the udpSender example. i know how the example looks like as I am able to compile it on Xcode

Starting debugger:

From the log it looks like you’re running the allAddonsExample not the UDPReceiverExample.
Maybe try closing all C::B workspaces and C::B itself and open the UDPReceiverExample again ( via the UDPReceiverExample.workspace and not the .project ) ?

I just tried VS 2010 and C::B on a Windows 7 machine and was able to run both sender and receiver normally.

You could also try VS2010 instead of C::B its pretty easy to use.
Setup guide here: http://www.openframeworks.cc/setup/vs-2010/

Make sure to get the 2010 and not 2012 edition.

Sorry you’re having all these troubles!
Theo

ps: maybe try again with a fresh copy of OF 0073 also.

I’ve got the same problem with win7 64bit+OF 0.7.4/0.8.0+CB 12.11,
and all the solutions mensioned above useless… T_T
can anyone help this? thanks…
