Media Lab Melbourne: Closer Sprint

Media Lab Melbourne is a new initiative that promotes collaboration between artists, designers, scientists, technologists, couturiers, performers, players, crafters and creatives! We have recently launched our new website and are making a call for applications for our first Sprint event. Media Lab Melbourne sprints are periods of intensive creative project development with emphasis on outcomes. They can be thought of as workshops with extra technical assistance, production support and an accelerated creation process.
Sprint: Closer

Relationships between the body and technology evolve in parallel with technological progression. Super connected devices enable us to see and experience the world anew. We keep them close. They fuse the virtual with the real. They are part of our everyday.

Media Lab Melbourne is calling for projects that reflect on the relationships between the body and technology. Projects will be realised during a sprint from the 13th - 21st of August. Everyone is welcome to apply. As this is a collaborative Sprint it is not important what skills you have but how effective your idea is!

How To Apply
Create a .pdf explaining your proposed project of a file size that is less than 10Mb and send it to

Please respond to the following questions in your application:

* What is your project about?
* What kind of assistance would you require to realise this project?
* What would be your role/contribution to the realisation of the project?
* What impact do you think your project would have on the everyday or to the broader community?

We will also be assessing the feasibility of an outcome within the sprint time-frame as well as relevance to the theme.

DEADLINE: Monday 25th July, 2011
This call is for Australian residents only unless you can cover your own travel costs.

Media Lab Melbourne will support projects with technical and production support. Should a person live interstate and wish to attend, we are also able to provide basic travel and accommodation for the duration of the sprint. Selected participants will be notified towards the end of July. At this point there will be a second call for collaborators to assist in the creation of the selected projects. Applicants who are not selected in the initial call are welcome to also apply to participate as collaborators. Selected applicants must be available to work during the sprint period in August.
