Imaging Source cameras and oF on OSX

Hi everyone,

I’ve got an Imaging Source FireWire camera DBK 31AF03 - it’s colour & hi res. (Identical to this one but without the IR cut filter http://www.theimagingsource.com/en-US/products/cameras/firewire-ccd-color/dfk31af03/#specification)

On OSX it works with ofVideoGrabber but only at 15fps, it should do 30 in BY8 mode although no idea how to set it up that way.

I’ve tried the IOxperts industrial driver (http://www.ioxperts.com/products/industrial.html) but that doesn’t seem to work with oF.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

cheers!

Seb

have you tried ofxVideoGrabber or ofxLibdc?

Hi Arturo!

I had noticed the odd mention of those, but I’m not really sure what they are or how they are different. I’m checking out ofxVideoGrabber now, is googlecode still the place to go for that? http://code.google.com/p/digitalstarcode/

cheers!

Seb

yes, and ofxLibdc here: https://github.com/kylemcdonald/ofxLibdc

firewire cameras work with a particular protocol different from that used by webcams. these addons use a library called libdc1394 which is specifically coded to work with those cameras so you have more flexibility when choosing the format, fps…

thanks again,

does ofxVideoGrabber work with the latest oF? I can’t get it to compile. ofxLibdc works better but my camera is colour and I think that’s only B/W.

cheers!

Seb
