hap- GPU accelerated video codecs- has any on used in openframworks?

Hello all

i came across this http://vdmx.vidvox.net/blog/hap and it look great, is any working on getting in to openframworks?

if not any pointer to get me started would be great, as i am not sure where to start at all, here is the source code
i think i would need to make a ofxHapVideoPlayer, but the data look complex and i have not worked with data this raw before -)

Hey Ben,

Adding support for Hap to an app / framework that already uses QuickTime for playback should be pretty straightforward.

The code for a very simple Hap playback application is linked to off the main github repos and should be a good starting point:

david, huge props to vidvox for open-sourcing this thing! (as opposed to *cough* resolume with dxv)

Now all we need is a version which runs on non-mac platforms. :slight_smile:
a pity, I never wrote/analyzed a codec before. :-/

yeah this HAP codec is just what i have been looking for. found it a few days ago, so nice that it can be implemented into oF

Hi All,

I’ve started a project to get HAP working but am not quiet there yet and any help would be appreciated. Things seem like there close to working in that the video is loading with the HAP codec and I’m getting frames of the correct size but I just can’t see anything. I think its to do with the openGL contexts but I’m not very knowledgeable in this area and have just been hacking around.

Currently the code resides in an add on and can be found here - https://github.com/sheridanis/ofxHAPQTKitPlayer

Please feel free to check it out and have a look but as of yet things don’t work

Should this work on 10.6.8?

I think ofQTKitPlayer (from which ofxHapPlayer inherits) requires 10.7+ - I’m not sure why.

I’m starting to think about upgrading my machine to 10.8. Since I also have pretty laggy performance with ofVideoPlayer.

I have a mid 2010 MBP though, any thoughts?
