Dangerous Australians - Interactive table

Hello,

I just wanted to share an interactive table project we created here for the Australian Museum in Sydney using OpenFrameworks, OpenCV and Ogre3D (amongst many other things).

The table allows visitors to interact directly with ten of Australia’s most dangerous animals and their environment as well as view detailed information about them. It runs across 4 macs and 4 projectors with multi-user interaction via camera-vision.

Some more details here:

There is also a video here:

Thanks,

Dave

I wondering if you are able to provide the source code?
Best Regards!

sweet! looks really sharp.

I wonder if you can talk about how the software was made - especially how the different pieces (OF/ORGE,etc) fit together… can you describe a bit the process?

thanks for posting!!

Hi - I can’t provide the full source of the project but I’m hoping to post some of the prototyping bits and pieces soon. is there a particular area you are interested in?

Thanks Zach,

OF was used with the OpenCV add-on to track the visitor interactions. We also used the OSC add-on to send the tracking data to the display app.

Ogre3D was used inside Cocoa (using Objective-C++) for all the 3D animals and the environment - most of it was modeled and part-animated (walk cycles, bite sequnces) in 3ds Max. All the paths for the animals movement around the table (the snake’s slither etc) are controlled by the program.

Finally the 2D information interface was created over the top of the Ogre3D window using Apple’s Core Animation and Quartz APIs.

I’m going to put some process documentation up over the next week or so - I’ll post again here then.

Thanks!

What I’m trying to do is something like this ( http://www.rmh.de/fish-pool ).
I know for Craig Reynold’s model of steering behaviors and water effect (ripples) but my problem is making realistic fish smooth animation (integrate 3ds max model in code)…
I’m looking for a code example that will help me, which I’d like to edit, using VC++ 2005.
Your program best fits my needs
Something similarly with interactive mouse fishes is http://www.dphco.com/ but it is made with flash…
I’am going to use Optitrack FLEX V100 camera (is it the best choise??).
Thanks in advice!

Mladen

Camera-wise we used Unibrain cameras which have been great.

for 3D fish - All the 3D stuff in our table was done using Ogre3D.
The SDK even has a fresnel refraction demo which has a school of fish in it that should help you get things going.

for the fish can you make in blender or 3ds max, if you make an animation you can import in OF, with 3d library, and ou make a class for make the movementes more reals.

and used collision library and atracction MSAPHSICS, for make at atraction with the mouse or, the colision with the person.

y make this but never can make the water effect if you have any idea for water effect, i used this

http://forum.openframeworks.cc/t/simulate-water/1726/0
but creater a kind of blank space and i eed tmake better.

take carare

i am intesinf in visual effect like water jeje

thx and congratulations for tour project…

Not sure if this is what you want, but there’s a nice simple water ripple demo here with explanations…

hey grimus thx alot :)i woking on it and i put my example soon

wow! just came across this post…
is the interactive table still installed in the Australian Museum?
would love to pop in and check it out if its still there.

Hi Dave
Great work, mate, wish I were still in sydney so can see it myself. Anyway, I read that you are using 4 computer and 4 projectors. the most interesting question for me is how you work on the soft edge (combine and blend 2 projects image togther) to avoid those hard combining lines. ?

hi johnavila2!

Can you share some source code for this or make tutorial?

Thanx!
Best regards!
