Create a 3d environment

is there any easy way to setup a 3d environment with some basic texture?
I am trying to create a 3d space as a huge sphere, where the internal surface of it is a gradient or a texture etc.
I am not sure I have explained this well enough.
At the moment I am creating a giant icoSphere and trying to allocate a shader to it but I feel this is not the right way.
Any suggestion anyone?


I don’t see why the approach you are taking might be not right.
Actually I’d say the it is the best approach.
