Just wanted to share a new project with the OF community.
This past February, I presented some algorithmic animations at Upfor Gallery in Portland. Using OF and James George’s ofxOculusDK2 addon, I created a designed a virtual copy of the gallery and some animations that flowed through its architecture.
The ribbons were generated using Perlin noise, quaternions and ofMeshes. I found that using quaternions provided a clear representation of a ribbon’s direction, making it easier to draw smooth mesh faces and do add subtle behaviors such as spinning, etc. All of the meshes were drawn using shaders and instancing to boost performance (see @arturo’s recent textureBufferInstancedExample https://github.com/openframeworks/openFrameworks/blob/master/examples/gl/textureBufferInstancedExample).
I’m hoping to share some tutorials on the drawing algorithms in June.
Hope you enjoy!
