Artist/Designer-in-residence job – dynamic infovis project

We are two design researchers seeking to collaborate with a media
artist/designer who can develop a dynamic and interactive visualization
tool. The concept and content to be visualized is a theory from the
philosophy of Felix Guattari, which we are applying to model, analyze,
and forecast sustainability in product design. The tool would involve
mapping complex relations between three variables psychological,
sociological, and environmental factors in sustainability), and how
these relations change over time. This would be a basis for generating a
dynamic visualization of the short and long term sustainability of
various designs. The tool would be developed and applied within a
research context, but a primary audience would be visitors to a
prominent upcoming museum exhibition. We have high ambitions for the
aesthetic qualities, as well as the conceptual and technical aspects,
and the project would require sophisticated information design as well
as analytic and programming skills.

The project is part of a PhD thesis in design and will be developed in
collaboration with the Interactive Institute in Sweden (www.tii.se).
This will be a paid position as an artist/designer-in-residence, and we
are looking for someone capable of teamwork as well as self-direction,
to work with us over 1-4 months in Stockholm.

If you are interested, please send a C.V. and a link to examples of your
work to: ramia.maze@tii.se, at the latest
by May 10, 2008. To secure funding for the position, we will need to
include your information in an application shortly after this date.
