application didn't shut down properly

sometimes after i closed the application window,it didn’t shut down properly,it still running in the processor. i have to kill it from the Task Manager.

i.e the “fontsExample.exe”,anyone has the same issue?
under xpSp2,thxs!

Hi - are you hitting the [x] button on the window?
If so this is a known issue with GLUT on windows [-http://www.openframeworks.cc/forum/view-…-ose+window ]

Do you still have this problem if you hit the ESC key to close the app?

Theo

ps : we did have a fix for this but it somehow didn’t work across all windows compilers so we’ve left it out for the moment. the better fix is to use an alternative windowing toolkit to GLUT, something we are looking at for future releases (and that arturo has already done on linux w/ gtk).

take care!

About an alternate windowing toolkit, I read an idea on one post from you, Zach, talking about an abstraction layer, that can be great. Perhaps we can make a wiki section documenting how diferent toolkits work, ie: the events, the update/draw cycle… so we can make an idea on what an abstraction layer has to be.

Also, after implementing the gtk port, I realized it wasn’t very compatible with mac, plus it have lots of dependencies, and searching the internet, one of the best alternatives I found was wxWidgets that is indeed kind of abstraction layer as it offers a uniform api over the native windowing system of each OS
