1-bit textures

is there a 1-bit luminance texture type?
i.e. black and white

Do you mean GL_TEXTURE_1D? Maybe take a look at http://www.opengl.org/sdk/docs/man/xhtml/glTexImage1D.xml

Or, I could have misunderstood and you’re looking for using GL_LUMINANCE instead of GL_RGBA?

i’m not looking for a 1D texture i.e. one that only extends in 1 dimension (e.g. a 1D barcode).

i’m referring to the colour data per pixel.
on the page you posted there’s mention of

  
GL_LUMINANCE, GL_LUMINANCE4, GL_LUMINANCE8  

GL_LUMINANCE in openFrameworks means 8bit luminance, but there’s also GL_LUMINANCE8. Is there a difference? What I’m after is a GL_LUMINANCE1 i guess.

It’s not vital for the project since I’m not going to run out of video memory so quickly. just curious about whether it exists
